Universities in Georgetown, Texas
Students add a vitality and energy to any city, and there are a couple of universities and one community college near the new townhomes in Georgetown, TX. Southwestern University is a small, highly regarded university in Georgetown that brings the energy of youth to the town, and produces live theater performances that delight the public. Austin Community College and Texas State University have regional campuses in Round Rock, which is a short commute south of the new townhomes in Georgetown.
Austin Community College
Austin Community College offers two-year programs leading to an Associate’s Degree or certification in a wide variety of specialties. Students may transfer earned credits to Texas State University’s undergraduate programs. Available courses include foreign language study, biology, chemistry, astronomy, anthropology, auto repair, drama, nursing and computer science. Those are just a few of the over 235 programs to choose from. The school has eight campuses and the one located in Round Rock is closest to the new homes in Georgetown. Scholarships and financial aid may be available to qualified students. The campus is situated on 85 acres and while the grounds may be lovely, you might prefer to participate in a distance learning course from the privacy of your new townhome in Georgetown.
Texas State University
Texas State University’s main campus is in San Marcos, but it has a large regional campus in Round Rock, which is just a few miles south of the new Georgetown townhomes. The Round Rock campus only offers junior and senior level courses and collaborates with Austin Community College that teaches freshman and sophomore level courses. Students must have earned a minimum of 45 credit hours in order to apply to the Texas State University regional program. The two campuses are a short distance from each other and the partnership between the schools allows local students to earn a four-year degree without leaving home.
Southwestern University is located in Georgetown, slightly north of the new townhome development of University Place. The school was established in 1840 and is affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The university offers four-year liberal arts programs and no graduate courses. The grounds are beautiful and cover 701 acres, which is more than sufficient for its enrollment of fewer than 1,500 students. They may be small, but they’re mighty and have over 20 athletic teams. This gives residents of the new townhomes a wonderful opportunity to watch competitions between schools. Go out and root for the Pirates. The campus even has a six-hole golf course that’s free to students and available to the public for a small fee. The school hosts a variety of special events featuring guest lecturers and artists, and many of these activities are open to the public. In addition, the theatre department presents live musical, comedic and dramatic productions that are also open to the public. Tickets can be purchased on the school’s website.
